2026 Q1 Volunteer

Thomas McNamara, Associate Biologist, California Lutheran University (CLU)

The organization that I chose to volunteer with as Pax’s 2026 Q1 volunteer was California Lutheran University. I gave a lecture to seniors at CLU who are interested in environmental consulting careers. To accomplish this, I gave them guidance on how to maximize their efforts for job hunting.  This included what to emphasize on resumes, how to word resumes, and what to do to stand out from other resumes. A secondary goal was to give them guidance where the can be prepared and excel in whatever job they end up in the environmental consulting field. Lastly, to plug Pax and let students know its a great option to start their careers and how I’ve benefitted from the company.

The students were able to understand what obstacles are ahead of them post grad and how to work around those obstacles to maximize their chances of success. I was able to show them the atrium project I did at CLU. I was also able to go over what my day to day looks like and the wide scope of projects I’ve worked on. The lecture went for over an hour and they had a lot of questions that I was able to answer.
